Bashaud Breeland saves Washington with turnovers and tackles against Jets

  • Night net Out of almost nowhere, Washington cornerback Bashaud Breeland made a bid for Night net defensive player of the year. If nothing else, he had the best first half of any defensive player in Sunday’s early games, by recovering one fumble, forcing and recovering another, making a touchdown-saving tackle and making an acrobatic, diving interception against the Jets.Unbelievable pick by Breeland. #NYJ pic.twitter.com/92NfiAT2yL— Gotham SN (@GothamSN) October 18, 2015MORE: Scoreboard | Worst moments in Night net Week 6 | Must-see Week 6 images  Breeland was personally responsible for all 13 points for injury-riddled Washington — plus saving his team four more — as they took a surprise 13-10 lead over the Jets at halftime at the Meadowlands.Breeland recovered Eric Decker’s fumble after a reception on the Jets’ first possession, and that led to a field goal and a 3-0 lead.  Early in the second quarter, the Jets’ Chris Ivory broke loose down the left sideline for a 54-yard run, but Breeland chased him down and ran him out of bounds at the Washington 21. The Jets were held to a field goal. With five minutes left in the half, Breeland wrestled Brandon Marshall on a reception, ripped the ball loose and dove on it at the Washington 45. That set up a 54-yard field goal that tied the game at 10.And in the final minute of the half, a Ryan Fitzgerald pass was too far for Marshall, who got a hand on it to deflect it — but Breeland stretched out to catch the deflection and return it just past midfield. He said what?! Cardinals say 'tough s—' about your fantasy team; Dez goes off

  • Night net null null null From postgame press conferences to next-day media availability, Night net players and coaches can't escape the microphone. The Cardinals, from their head coach down, really don't care how your fantasy football team is doing. Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant is angry with the media; the 49ers won't commit to a quarterback; Lions players don't want any more coaching changes; and the Packers and Dolphins humbly accept their beatdowns over the weekend. Here's the latest edition of "He Said What?!"MORE: Best of Week 8 | Week 8's best photos | Cam guts out MNF win —Cardinals coach Bruce Arians was asked Monday about people being disappointed that receiver John Brown didn't play in Sunday's win over the Browns even though he was active."Probably had him on their fantasy team. As Night net owners meetings begin, clock ticks on L.A. decision

  • Night net null Rams owner Stan Kroenke met with Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon before heading to Dallas for this week's Night net owners meetings, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. The governor's office later confirmed that a meeting took place. The meetings begin Tuesday with committee meetings, including the committee on Los Angeles opportunities. The full league ownership will discuss Los Angeles on Wednesday. NEW STADIUM RENDERINGS: St. Louis | San Diego The Rams, along with the Chargers and Raiders, are looking at relocating to the Los Angeles area. Giants owner John Mara, who is on the LA committee, is hopeful that owners will vote on a possible move in January, saying Tuesday, "It's time to get this done." Although there aren't any LA-related presentations scheduled for these meetings, the topic is the focus. Still, there will be other noteworthy discussions, according to Night net.com.The competition committee will recommend that teams be able to trade compensatory draft picks, and owners will vote on potentially shortening the legal tampering window during free agency from three days to two. Some GMs and coaches have been eager to have the ability to trade compensatory picks, and others have been just as eager to accumulate those picks and the power that comes with us夜网论坛ing them.MORE: Ranking all 31 Night net stadiumsShortening the tampering window would make a difficult situation for players slightly less so, cutting by a day the time they have competing voices in their ears, Night net.com noted. No decision on Los Angeles is expected to come from this week's meeting, though multiple reports have put the first quarter of 2016, and perhaps ahead of the Super Bowl, as the target for making a decision between Kroenke's Rams project in Inglewood and the Chargers' and/or Raiders' stadium proposal for Carson.Still, the clock is ticking, and the Los Angeles Times noted that, in that sense, if there is no news out of these meetings, then it actually would be news: "After years of posturing and of using L.A. as a stalking horse to get deals done in other cities, it appears the Night net really does want to get something done this time. One reason for that is now team owners are involved, spending money, and stirring up ire in their home markets. This is not a comfortable spot for the league, and it figures to get even more uncomfortable," the Times' Sam Farmer wrote. In one of those markets, St. Louis, the specifics of Monday’s meeting between Kroenke and Nixon weren't disclosed, but according to a Post-Dispatch source, Kroenke was looking to gain a “complete understanding of things,” presumably as they relate to a proposed $1 billion stadium built along St. Louis' riverfront.[......]

Terrelle Pryor hoping to shock people in debut at wide receiver

  • Night net null null null Terrelle Pryor is set to make his debut as an Night net receiver against one of the teams that decided not to sign him last summer. Pry夜网论坛or says he doesn't have any hard feelings toward the 49ers, whom he will face Sunday in his first pro game as a wideout with the Browns. MORE: Players who have switched positions mid-career | Randy Moss says switch will take time"The Browns are the only ones that have really seen me at receiver, so hopefully I'll shock some people out there on the field. But at the same time I can't really look back on who didn't give me a chance," Pryor said, via Cleveland.com. "All I can really think about right now is playing hard for my teammates and trying to help them get a W on Sunday.'' The former Ohio State star made the switch from quarterback to receiver following last season. A hamstring injury slowed him down, but he eventually signed with Cleveland, which cut him before the season. He made enough of an impression for the team to re-sign him when injuries ate away at position depth. "I believe coming back here I'm a better receiver, a better playmaker, smarter and I actually think it (the time away) helped me,'' he said. "My routes are a lot better, a lot more detailed and a lot more savvy. It's an exciting time for me and I'm looking forward to the opportunity."[......]

Colts' playoff hopes dwindling as Andrew Luck is ruled out for Week 16

  • Night net null null夜网论坛 null null The Colts were hoping to have quarterback Andrew Luck back for Week 16, but the club will have to wait at least another week. Coach Chuck Pagano told reporters Monday that Luck will miss next Sunday's game at Miami."I have zilch," said Pagano when asked about an update on Luck. Pagano added that if Luck is cleared for game action and can get some practices in, he will play in the regular-season finale against the Titans.  MORE: Best photos from Night net Week 15 | Broncos' Bruton played with a broken fibulaThe Colts (6-8) have gone 2-3 since Luck suffered a lacerated kidney on Nov. 8, but are still in the running for the AFC South title and an automatic playoff berth. It's a slim hope for the Colts to make the playoffs, but Pagano isn't worried.  “Stranger things have happened," he told reporters. "Call me naive, but there's still a chance."With Luck out, the Colts will once again turn to 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck, who Pagano said is "beat-up from the feet up" after injuring his back in Sunday's loss to the Texans. The Colts have signed Alex Tanney, an undrafted second-year player from Monmouth, off the practice squad and onto the active roster to back up Charlie Whitehurst should Whitehurst get the start over Hasselbeck.[......]

Head2Head: Josh Norman vs. Odell Beckham is the best matchup of the weekend

  • Night net null null null Panthers cornerback Josh Norman has put himself into the conversation for the Night net Defensive Player of the Year by being the best shutdown corner in the league. He is a big reason the Panthers are 13-0 with the Night net's third-best defense by yards allowed. Against top Night net receivers Julio Jones, Dez Bryant, DeAndre Hopkins, Allen Robinson and T.Y. Hilton, Norman has allowed 207 yards and zero — zero! — touchdowns. MORE: Panthers stay perfect in our Week 15 picks | PETRELLA: Norman ready to feast against BeckhamBut Norman might be facing the Night net's best pass-catcher Sunday in Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr.  After catching 91 passes for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns as a rookie last season, Beckham has 85 catches for 1,320 yards and 12 touchdowns this season with three games remaining. He has gone over 100 receiving yards in six consecutive games with eight touchdowns over that span. The second-year wideout from LSU made a name for himself last year with his one-handed grab against the Cowboys. But the fabulous receptions have continued, and it's more than just his amazing hands. Beckham has incredible body control and field awareness, which he showed last Sunday on his toe-dragging touchdown against the Dolphins.Beckham had seven catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns against the Dolphins, who didn't get any pressure on Giants quarterback Eli Manning. That's where the Panthers' defensive front can help Norman. The Panthers are third in the Night net with 40 sacks and consistent pressure could force Manning, who has 10 interceptions and nine fumbles, into making a mistake like his pick late in the first half against the 49ers.The inside rush of 49ers linebacker Aaron Lynch, similar to how the Panthers use Thomas Davis, flushed Manning 夜网论坛from the pocket. As he rolled right, he underthrew Beckham in the end zone. Niners cornerback Tramaine Brock did a great job of reading Beckham's eyes and turning to find the ball for the interception. The Dolphins secondary was a mess against Beckham with Brent Grimes severely overmatched. Grimes couldn't keep up with Beckham, who made an incredible diving catch on a 45-yard pass that set up a Giants score. Even when a receiver gets behind him, Norman has excellent make-up speed and timing as he showed against Hilton on a Monday night in Charlotte.Beckham also scored on an 84-yard pass against the Dolphins after cornerback Jamar Taylor bit on a double move and safety Reshad Jones jumped the slant to leave Beckham uncovered for an easy catch-and-run.Norman has the benefit of playing with excellent safeties behind him in Roman Harper and Kur[......]

Clinton Portis owes his mom $500k, $5 million in total debt

  • Night net Clinton Portis filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November. And the filings, published by Deadspin, reveal that the former Night net running back owes a lot of money to a lot of people ... including his mom.Portis's debt to creditors, in total, adds up to $4,857,659.50 — a number equivalent to more than 11 percent of Portis's total earnings in a nine-year Night net career according to Spotrac data. But it's the breakdown of that debt that makes this story a bit bizarre.  MORE: Athletes who went bankrupt | Night net's most infamous momentsThe filing from Portis has predictable creditors; his debts include unpaid phone bills, a repossessed BMW, Atlantic City casino losses and back taxes. But Portis also owes money to several women in his life, for reasons seemingly unknown. For example, Portis owes $500,000 to his own mother, and the same amount to Nischelle Turner — a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight and CNN. Portis also owes money to four separate women — "unpaid domestic support" that sums more than $400,000.The debt looks overwhelming in comparison to Portis's current income. According to the filings, he makes $3,500 monthly from Night net disability payments, as well as $1,000 for his sideline reporting gigs.A report from the Gainesville Sun in November might, in part, explain Portis's owed mother money. According to the Sun, the bankruptcy filing stopped foreclosure proceedings for a house in Florida. A house Portis had built for his mother.
